Somali Cultural Clothing are the new fashion 'Trend' for African women.

Let's just accept it.

We've been robbed.

I saw West African Muslim girls in one video having a 'baati party' in New York. And Habesha girls, hosting a "baati" party. They're getting smarter with it and just calling it a "Baati party" now to avoid our comments flooding them. But it seems to be, that Somali clothes, are going to be appropriated under 'modest' clothing etc.

As long as they give credit, call it the correct name, I give up. I don't even feel angry anymore. It just goes to show how influential Somalis are, and that a lot of groups want to be Somali women/take the swagger, essence of a Somali woman.

Do you have the source for these two? I've deleted tiktok and I haven't seen many things like these lately. It's a blessing really. I don't see why west africans are wearing baatis though. They have quite nice looking Kaftans (I think it's called Kaftan).

They’re gonna act dumb in the comments when called out like Baati isn’t a Somali word lmfao

I actually prefer them using the "Baati word" as it doesn't even sound like any other language.

:ftw9nwa:

The Swahilis cling onto the bastardised 'Dera' word for dear life and act like the Arabs gave it to them. They really enjoy pedastalising Arabs and giving them ownership of Somali cultural attire.

They came for the food and afterwards the dress. Mark my words they will claim our language and history because they will state it "african language and history". We need to stop the pan africans among us who's trying to make business from our item. All business is not good business.

The food? I haven't heard of that one. Most cuisines seem pretty different to ours besides some Kenyans dishes.

If I could travel back in time, I would save the Alindi from East Africa and also, NOT sell Somali clothes to dadkaan kale.

Because it's not being appreciated, it's being appropriated and Somalis are also being disrespected at the same time.

So, it's a small win, to see them using a Somali name for it.

Alindi originated in Somalia right? I've seen similar fabrics in Eygpt, yemen and oman.

@Farah717
While other African women are cosplaying as somali girls, other Africans/black people are mocking Somali men. I guess that’s the difference between representing your culture’s beauty with pride and being a clown at the expense of your people.

If other African women don’t credit us, it’s out of jealousy
This is what bothers me. We're the first to be thrown under the bus but now it's "Yay we're all africans β™‘".
