Somali food in the UK is overrated [A Rant]

Man, you know nothing about Somali restaurants if this is your take. We have a few that are modern with nice interiors like sabiib. You're rating restaurants meant for Somalis to hang out. Of course, the standard is lower and the menu is the same. Do you think a Somali uncle wants a Korean BBQ suqaar? Somali food will never be big, our food itself is limited. It’ll never be more than just hearty food.

Btw Haniid is arabic call it by the somali version

Ds Kitchen is a fast food place that takes advantage of social media marketing. Most people seem to find the haneed burger stuff amusing and he very obviously doesn’t actually sell it.

What you’ve taken issue to is silly because it’s equivalent to an Indian going to an Indian restaurant in Southall and extrapolating their experience. Go to Savannah/Village/Sabiib if you want a restaurant experience.

If you wanted Middle Eastern desserts … would you not go to a Middle Eastern restaurant ?

these restaurants are catered to somali uncles and boys after school and the masjid if women were running it the place would look clean and aesthetically pleasing sabiib is the only nice looking place even though the food is dry
I haven't found any auntie run ones. Now that you mention it, all the big places are indeed run by men. I hadn't ever thought about it. It doesn't have to he the prettiest place on earth but y'allah invest in some decent chairs and put the food on the plate nicely.

If you live in london have you been to Savannah? Also, the somali food in Birmingham is very good. Can't lie I think the reason is low demand? Somalis are very frugal why waste money on restaurants when you have you're mom lol

which kind of begs the question, why are only older men always hanging out at somali restaurants and cafes? Why don't they ever take their families out :stressed:

too many people emphasize aesthetics. ive been to maqaayads that look amazing but with average food. i think those types of maqaayads target women.
The worst part is they serve less food and make it more expensive to cover costs. There's this maqayaad in my city that's run down asf but you can get a full plate for only 10 bucks, used to be 7 prior to covid

Shitty interior with cheap good food >>> good interior with expensive mid food

Even if the food tasted phenomenal, who would eat there if it smells like dookie and looks like a hurricane hit it?

That rule goes for normal spots but not restaurants. Restaurants looking decent is part of the job.
