The turkish thread had me thinking that this phenomenon deserves its own thread. Somalis are the only diaspora group that actively refuses to speak or learn its own language. Forget the hooyo mataalo generation those can atlest understand when you speak somali to them but I have seen with my own eyes hooyo mataalo gen kids who don't even understand the somali language when you are speaking. Language is so important and if you lose that then you lose a major part of your identity.
Somali Gen Z and beyond are a foregone conclusion.

Like I dont think you understand how wild it is have a child who has gone past the booted into the system stage and can form memories, not understand a lick of somali you are saying. Honestly speaking if we don't sort out the homeland situation we are doomed. These Cadaan don't understand that being a refugee for too long is also detrimental to our culture and heritage.
We should model ourselves after the Norwegians, Japanese and Chinese. Bad traits aside we should adopt their good traits and implement them in our culture. The romans in particular were praised by the prophet for treating the weakest in society with kindness and compassion. Something that our people have still not managed to understand. They also have managed to usurp their corrupt tribal leaders and have developed a fair ruling system that has prevented the oppression of the lower class in society.

It happens a lot with these post 2010 born kids. Their parents barely speak any Somali to then and so they don’t understand. Either bc their Somali ain’t that great themselves or bc they don’t value the importance of their kids knowing their language. It’s sad but unfortunately the longer we live in the west the more the language and dhaqan will be lost within the diaspora. It’s inevitable when you live far from your homeland

Europeans in general. Banu Asfar i.e the Byzantines and modern day Europeans. It's hard to disregard the hadith when it still stands true till this day. Besides one theory i have is that the Muslims and Africans will be more heavily impacted by nuclear fallout than the European nations who are more prepared for such a scenario. Or perhaps climate change will wipe out the majority of the unprepared populations.
All we know for sure is that the Middle East will be the bloodiest battlefield during those last days.

I understand where your coming from but what's your referrance or relative to what other second language speaking community would you compare us to? Because diasporas kids spoke relatively high level somali, grammatically although it's understanble their vocabulary is lacking compared to natives.

Blame the waalid. My sister spoke perfect af-Soomaali until she went into school. That’s because we mainly spoke it at home. It’s clear which kids have family who made an effort with them language wise and the ones that didn’t. I don’t think those parents are thinking long-term consequences just yet. Maybe they will start to feel the regret as their child grows and can’t interact properly with their grandparents, relatives or any Somali speaking person. One of the main reasons I want my future spouse to speak good af-Soomaali is for the betterment of my kids. I won’t be able to teach them at home by myself if their aabo speaks broken af-Soomaali. I fear when we start losing more of our parents generation and we don’t have their help with language iyo dhaqan.
Gen Z were basically raised by their parents iPads and Youtube videos, most of them can't even hold a conversation in a langauge they're fluent in, much less Somali. I've made peace with the fact that my grandchildren are going to be selling nudes on future versions of OnlyFans as a career choice lol
