Somalia is lucky that it wasn't colonized by the French. Because those m@therf#ckers are the worst colonizers. They strip you of your culture and language. Not saying the Italians are good people, but at least they didn't destroy the heritage of the people they colonized unlike the French. Somalia, Ethiopia, Libya, and Eritrea who were colonized by Italy still retain their local languages and heritage whereas those colonized by France have been culturally and linguistically permanently colonized by France.
It’s also worth noting that the primary purpose of colonisation for the brits unlike the French, was capital profits, culture and language were secondary as long as the colony turned a profit the brits wouldn’t be soo xaasid especially if you were Muslim cuz they considered it burdensome. Part of the reason why they advocated against the colonisation of Mecca and medina as they wanted to prevent a Muslim uprising, they understood the power of a militant Islam brewing in their colonies and sought to prevent it at all costs, you can even hear this in the way the wrote about the Mahdists in Sudan. they’d prop up/sign with a local leader and just take the resources and if you were obedient it could be mutually beneficial like the Saudis and khaleej. whereas the French were just obsessed with making their colonies francophone culturally religiously and linguistically. There was also this joke amongst the brits that the french colonies were shit since they were so barren. I lowkey respect the brits out of all colonial powers since the were pretty objective and didn’t pursue irrational agendas without a purpose unlike the French Portuguese and Italians. That’s not to say British colonialism was better and not bad, they really fucked over the Indians and others.

I'm going to italy in the summer. I know italy colonised south Somalia for time. Does anyone know if there's big diaspora community over there or no?
Why would you want to do that? The purpose of going to Italy should be enjoying Italy, even if it is a rude and racist society.

This is because italy had only unified in 1865 so less than 50 years had passed when they started trying to colonized africa and they were still poor as shit.

Italian involvement in somalia only really increased in the late 1920s and then they lost control of it in the 40s and it was trusteeship in the 50s. Outside of mogadishu all they built was a couple farming areas and the small railway.

Italy had a much larger influence on Eritrea and libya and even did way more bulding and development in the 5 years they ruled Ethiopia than all the decades they were in somalia.
