Most truckers are only bringing in around 50-70k a year. Mainly the company drivers. The owner operators are making six figures but they still have to pay for maintenance, gas and etc. so that 175k they earned will probably be around 90-100k in take-home pay.

You would have to be very senior(10 years of experience) to earn that much at Lockheed Martin as their salaries are much lower than average. That 150k will be adjusted for the cost of living in those states. 150k in California is different than 150k in Tennessee. There are teachers and nurses earning 120k+ in California who would normally be earning around 70-80k in most states. A man earning 150k in the Midwest would definitely be earning around 200k with the same job in California.

Nigga Washington DC is literally 64 miles long. The actual salary of truckers in the entire DMV region is around 80k a year.
200k salary is not a whole lot in CA. The houses per average cost $829k in February 2025. Your state income tax is 35.2%, & your state sales tax is 7.25%. Your average property taxes come down to roughly $6k for a house that costs $829k.
On the top of that, you still have to pay federal income tax and also city tax from paycheck. Simply put it, your take home salary is not a whole lot when all of those deductions are made from your paycheck. You need two incomes coming to your home in order to make ends meet in CA.

My maternal uncle used to drive a truck. He quit it after a few months on the road. He told me it is not easy life but really rough. And when you pay fuel cost plus the time that you're away from home plus the cost of repairs of the truck, he stated it doesn't worth the hassle.

150-200k is a great salary for a single person in California. I mainly talking about living in California as a single person. Plus there's many people making less than that who are doing fine. Plenty of engineers in California are living good with salaries ranging between 100-150k
