Somali London Restaurant .... Ilaahow na astur

Ask yourself this: what is the intention behind this? Is putting a banana on a burger fusion food? Is creating inedible monstrosities fusion food? Are the comment sections filled with people excited to try it, or are they filled with people saying, "Somalis are so crazy!! They add BANANA to EVERYTHING!"

These restaurant owners are putting on the equivalent of a minstrel show just to sell a few more plates of food.

You know what real fusion food is? The California roll or Korean fried chicken. And guess what, you never see restaurant owners making a spectacle of themselves to sell those. There is no stigma or negativity around those foods and the people who make them.

If an Asian business owner made jokey videos about cat or dog burgers, they would be absolutely annihilated off the internet for pandering to racist stereotypes.
Maybe you're right that the intentions are to make a mockery for attention, but I still think there's room here that this guy could just be making wacky combos for fun without bad intentions.

I think its best to reserve judgement and wish the brother the best in these scenarios, I don't think its equal to the cat and dog stereotype, Somalis actually eat baasto/bariis iyo moos. I don't find eating moos as something to be humiliated by either.

I think a better example would be adding tofu to everything, that would be more apt when comparing east asian cuisines, it sounds wacky but I wouldn't care if I seen some Chinese guy advertising tofu hummus, I wouldn't think hes making a mockery of his own culture.

Also, that 'Haneed' bullshit, why are they calling hilib ari, OUR SOMALI DISH, an Arabic name??

These Somali restaurant owners in London don't seem to understand the importance of Somali culture and branding. Maxaa khaldan? I am actually disgusted and disappointed.
I always thought haneed was the way landers say hilib ari.The cringiest part of Somali restaurant advertisement is the hyperfocus on banana
