I'm giving my children all cadaan compatible names like Adam, Omar, Kareem, Sofia, Selma, Layla. It's better for them when they apply for jobs because they won't be discriminated against :yousmart:

I never said i'm against Western or Arab culture but somalis CANNOT complain about the Bantufication of Somalia when they allow to their country to be another Sudan.
That's hypocrisy and booty-licking.

If we are against the bantus that want to take over Somalia's culture, we should be also against the arabs. These people are not helping our Motherland.
At least with the bantus, they are educated and are in the Army.
yep i agree, we need to stop the double standards
either we are open for all kind of doggystyling of somali culture or we fully preserve our culture

Omar sounds Hispanic or Arabic to most people. It isn't Western sounding.

Kareem sounds extremely Arabic.

Somalis need to differentiate between religion and culture.

We share the same religion with Arabs but they have their own culture and we have our culture.

I hate when you assholes try to shame us for celebrating our culture and cultural names. We are not Arabs. We are Muslim. Arabs don't own Islam.

wallahi that's a actually a good move, better choice than the saddam or osman that we are currently seeing an influx of.

either somali names or cadaan compatible names.
u forgot sarah
i'm not sure about layla that seems arabish

But at least they can pronounce it. My sisters name is nasteexo and the cadaans butcher her name constantly. She used to get anxiety during school when the teacher was taking attendance or whenever her name was called by someone new. Anytime she tells her name to cadaans it takes a whole conversation to get her name even somewhat right, and she's very self conscious about that. I do not want that for my kids

Yh of course.
but why are somalis running away from these "muslim names" ??
i'm pretty sure it's because they don't consider it a muslim name

few years ago at a family gathering my auntie was looking a unique muslim name for her unborn child and when another aunitie suggested the name abshire she said "didn't i specifically say muslim names:fantasia2:, miss me with that small time somali shit:nahgirl: " and the whole room bursts into laughter
i must have been like 14 or 15 and was complete dhaqan celis but it still made me feel some type of way, like wat?:gucciwhat:

Yeah, one has to think of the pronounceability of your children's name when living in another culture.

This is why many Chinese use straight up Western names as they don't want to keep hearing Westerners butcher names.

I'm talking about Somalis celebrating Arab culture and calling you unislamic when you celebrate Somali culture. I hate those Somalis with a passion.

There is no Somali culture. We all collectively believe in something that is in our mind. All cultures are like that. As long as people believe there is culture, then it is.

every country has names that are coincidently the same with different meanings even the name ayan is known in sri lanka but with a different meaning

Nah, this one is definitely borrowed from Arabic.

علم

It means ''cleverness, tact, ingenuity, skill, finesse, science'' in Arabic.

But it's a nice name nevertheless.
