According to @Kisame this guy is a loser and shouldn’t have left his cushy job in Canada for Uganda

I’m not bothered by older individuals or African-born professionals moving back to Africa, especially when they have the opportunity to use their degrees. Take the Somali doctor who studied in China, for instance—it's a positive thing.

However, it seems like you and @Idilinaa are implying that I have something against all educated diaspora members returning home, which isn't the case.

I expect that within the next 20-30 years—perhaps even sooner—we’ll see a wave of engineers and doctors in Somalia in their 50s and beyond. The financial aspect is a big reason; you can retire much earlier in Somalia compared to the West. In the U.S., for example, you’d need a couple of million saved to retire comfortably in your 50s.

What I do find concerning is the involvement of children in this decision. I wouldn't recommend raising Western-born kids back home, given that the best schools and educational resources are still largely in the West. If you're a Western-educated professional with kids, your primary focus should be ensuring they have access to the best opportunities for success.

Take the U.S. as an example: living a middle-class lifestyle there is worthwhile if your children can attend excellent schools, especially in top districts. These schools are often filled with children from stable, two-parent middle-class households. For STEM professionals aiming for prestigious careers, school choice is crucial.

If we want to see another generation of educated Somali professionals excel, we need to prioritize proper education and upbringing for our kids. It’s about setting them up for success
