Somali QUEEN Advocates Against Further Arabization Of Our People

Actually they do:

Aaliyah, Amal, Amina, Leyla, Amira, Hiba/o, Yasmeen, Sara, Iman,

These names sound common to me.

but it’s rare for Males.
Most of those names are not secular names though.

Amina, The Prophets Muhammad's (PBUH) mother's name.
Sahra, the name of Prophet Ibrahim's (PBUH) wife.
Amal means Hope in The Quran
Layla, the names of one of the female companions of The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)
Iman, a religious name, of course.
Hiba means gift from Allah.

Somalis will fight arabisation but won’t notice how we use italian/english loanwords, dress like westerners (the men), there is an endless list about shit we do thats influenced by the west.

Most people fighting against arabisation don’t acknowledge how we are bring westernised. They are being hypocrits.

Westernization is pretty much inevitable. Aside from North Korea basically every country is Westernized/Soon to be Westernized. Even in Addis, Nairobi, Luanda, Accra, etc resemble the West in it's culture more and more every day. It's not something you can avoid.

The West has worked hard to make sure people are unable to distinguish modernization from westernization.

Classical Arabic (Quranic) is our language and was literary language of the Somali people untill the mid 1900s.Somalis are Arabs in the sense we belong to Arab civilization and many in modern Somaliland for example can speak Arabic and learn Classical Arabic at schools. They only pick up dialects when they start interacting with the Yemenis or watching syrian-dubbed turkish or egyptian films.

I have a European first name that doesn't make me cadaan or less Muslim.
:drakelaugh:Nobody really cares.

People don't realize that Arabic has displaced other Semitic languages in various parts of the Middle East. Aramic was dominant in the Middle Ages but is a dying language that was usurped by Arabic. Also, 90% of languages that are spoken will become extinct by 2100. It's your duty to keep elements of your language and culture alive. You are not at threat of extinction if you aren't lazy. FYI, Somali is not at threat of displacement by other Cushitic or Semitic languages at least to my knowledge.

I have interacted with a Djiboutian Afar brother and have come to the conclusion that Afars might be more Arabised than us as he spoke almost native level Te'izi dialect which is the popular dialect for Djiboutians.

Somalia is less Arabized than Eritrea, Djibouti, and Ethiopia. You would have to look hard to find someone who isn't a wadaad that can actually speak Arabic meanwhile the rest of the horn have kept Arabic as a bridge language between different communities something that we haven't done due to our 100% Somali surrounding. Somalia will never be arabized as Somalis have no will to learn Arabic aside from fusxa/msa for religious reasons.

It's a bit hilarious how the most nationalistic Somalis are those that live in foreign lands but the people back home are a bit more relaxed.

It's like they feel insecure since they're surrounded by people who don't share their culture and compensate for it by being ultra-nationalists kkkk.

There's nothing wahabi about giving your children Arabic names associated with religious figures. Are you going to call everything in the religion that doesn't conform to your culture Wahabism?

There's nothing wrong if she wants to give her own children traditional names but she shouldn't have a problem with others giving their children Arabic names though.

You are spot on, its very hard to separate modernization and westernization. I wish our people would fight bad cultural influences no matter where they originate and not be selective.

I get you nothing wrong with naming your kid after prophets and sahabas but these aspects are important in my opinion we should start taking pride in our own culture theres nothing wrong with that. At this point our entire culture has been replaced i hope to see when we start taking pride in our own identity instead of adopting others. Theres nothing haram about being proud of your culture but when you talk to the average somali about this they will treat it as such.

Okay but it's also important to not go too far in such things. Extremism is never good. What comes next, should Somalis start performing Salah in their own language and not Arabic? You see what I mean sxb.
