It should be banned for all crimes. Imagine seeing the killer of your loved one walking around in the market because his clansmen bailed him out, you would probably kill him and then you would get bailed out. It's a never ending circle. Just kill the killer.

I'm not an expert in sharia or in secular law, however I think that blood money has its place in our society. For example, someone runs over the main bread winner of a family, and so the family might choose blood money over other punishments to continue to sustain themselves until the children grows up and takes over.

In developed nations, we have the welfare system as a safety net, so there is no real need for financial compensation in the result of a manslaughter/murder. Also murderers rarely become serial murders but this is the opposite trend in sexual crimes.
