I have so many questions. What are the names of the women clothes in some of these photos and how did they wrap them? The arm bands. I haven't seen some of the textiles I would like to buy some and the necklaces.

Mashallah when you go through the photos they are all so beautiful!

I think it's just guntiino and garabsaar.

There is an entire thread on jewlery from collection by local Somali craftsmen and their names. I think the first picture the necklaces are called Labad(choker) and Kuul iyo Kadoon and the second picture the necklace is called Bisha cambarsheed

It's very interesting because you even see it from medieval to modern descriptions how much Somali women adorned jewelry This sentence is from Chinese 13th century "The women's hair is coiled up, and yellow varnish makes [their] heads [shine] bright. From both ears hang cords with several round ornaments, round the neck they wear a silver ring, and necklaces hang down onto the breast."

But it has even greater significance economically because they constituted a women assets and wealth that were tradable. Even represented forms of savings during economic hardships and drove the trade and demand of it.

One thing you will noticed from looking at old 20th century photos/depictions is how very fond Somali women were of wearing different types of ornaments, earrings, necklaces, collars, bracelets etcs.
There is a historical and economic aspects of this Jewlery tradition of Somali women and the collections we have go back to the 1700s. But the tradition go back even further based on historical medieval descriptions and it tells the story of a much more significant role of women in the local economic systems

There are still locals that make jewelry, like the Qalinshube.
