Somali woman who came to America in 1964

Life , liberty , and the pursuit of happiness
Educated Somalis came to the American west coast in the 80s fleeing the dictator these people are not as religious as Minnesota Somalis and there kids never went to dugsi

America had a quota on immigration from non European nations until 1965 and still maintains a 7% immigration cap

Wtf, that's my eedo! Recall she started ADESO. She's in contact with my mother and would frequently tell my hooyo to send me to her in Sanaag when she heard I was interested in making a difference in Somalia someday.

My paternal fam is Dishiishe along the paternal line but my father's hooyo was Warsangeli like her and awoowe's hooyo was also Warsangeli. My mother used to joke to her that I'm 2/3rds on the way to being her folk to which she'd joke back, "Yes, yes, absolutely. He's ours. Send him to us."

:pachah1:

Haven't gotten to meet her yet but hooyo always told me she was a very sophisticated and intelligent lady. Her projects definitely had me impressed:

It’s only gotten worse for the geeleey in somalia. The past few years was definitely an eye opener. Living with nomads for over 22 months, saw first hand what deforestation has done to the land. Animals especially goats and cattle were affected the most. Cattle to be exact were hit the hardest. Carcasses everywhere. People committing suicide becoz 3/4 of their herd perished from starvation. It was a sad sight wallahi. Something big needs to be done.

Warsangali. She knows quite a bit of the tribe's history too. Was told by my mother and some others that she'd tell lots of interesting stories surrounding the old Sultanate days and Suldaan Maxamuud Cali Shire. Someone should really sit down with all the Somali odays and habars and write down all their stories and recollections before they're lost.

I agree Somebody should ask her in depth about her time in America in the 60s and how the Somali community in America was back then
