I was thinking about how the Latin alphabet makes af-Soomaali look like key smashes (as well as the the letter-pronounciation incompatibility but that's a different topic)

And this is mainly because of the repeated letters that show strained vowels.

My mum was telling me about how she was taught how to spell the word inan as ìnan for a boy and inàn for a girl, the accents showing the tone drop that is present when you say the two words

I've also seen people choose to use ā instead of typing a double a (aa) so for example, Beerkay becomes Bērkay

That looks so much better and makes more sense in my opinion, I remember my early af-Sōmāli struggles being based on the fact that the spellings made no sense in my mind

They did that mainly for convenience since the most widely available tools (type writers, software, etc) were in English Latin, but Yh that “convenience” isn’t really needed anymore and a new script or a better adapted Latin should be made

The macron over the letter is so hard to see from a distance, If they must adopt a new script for everyone it should probably be osmaniya, even though im not puntlandar i admit it is the most known and suited for the job, prevents random ajnabi from just joining in somali discourse, and looks similar but distinct from the nearby geez scripts. Also to establish that for example the somali 𐒁 is distinct from the english b

I agree walaal, adjusted letters for the 'dh' 'kh' 'xa' and 'ca' would be very much needed additions

I've learnt the Osmaniya script and it makes a billion times more sense to use with all of the double letter alternatives and more, in'sha'allah it gains more support or at least contributes towards a new osmaniya-latin hybrid alphabet
