It actually made a huge difference for them. Basically till 10 years ago. 90% of govt revenue in Nigeria was from oil. So from the 60s always till like the 2010s everything built or done by the govt in Nigeria was through oil money. It's impossible to imagine how much worse everything in Nigeria would be without oil money. They even fought a war in the 60s and killed a bunch of igbo to prevent them from leaving Nigeria since that was where the oil was produced.

My problem isn’t with the people of either country but the leadership. Especially Somalias criminal leadership. They’ll steal as much as they can, even if that means all of it, and there aren’t any institutions to stop them. Mark my words.

The peopel are the government at the end of the day. What determines the competence of the government is the quality of the people.
Our politcans are corrupt but they are not more corrupt than your avg african politican and in some ways there corruption is a lot less harmful since they reinvest a lot of the money they take into the country for their own personal investments.

the real source of somalia's governmental problems stem from the fact that the government has no independent source of revenue. Hsm not paying the soliders partly had to do with how corrupt he is. But it's also the fact that somalia is so donor dependent that any corruption has massive effects. Kenya which has 2-3 times our gdp and pouplation has a government revenue of 16 billion dollars. Vs our govt which has only a 1 billion from funding .

If kenya with 16 times our funding struggles with getting anything done. What can somalia do with $1 billion.

How about you stop making excuses for the corrupt politcians, it would atleast be a beginning..
