In order to have any level of technological sophistication, you must have a surplus to support specialization. In order to have a surplus you must have agriculture. Ethnic somalis were pastoralists thus no surplus to support technological advancement. Complex politics emerge from the need for a system of managing said surplus, if you have no surplus you have no Athenian democracy or philosophy. Civilization cannot emerge from a pastoral culture nor from a hunter/gatherer culture, it is not even assured when you have agriculture.

Being a world power in that age just meant you had greater cohesiveness than the bordering groups or what Ibn Khaldun called "Casabiyah" The Arabs first conquer the Middle East, then the Turks then the Mongols each group better organized than the one before it.

You see, pastoral people like the Arabs or Somalis, Mongols etc were in the past able to form confederacies and conquer settled socities. We Somalis almost succeeded in this were it not for the portuguese siding with the Habesha. This does not mean that these groups were more advanced than those they conqured. The Arabs, like the Mongols in China, were a militarily dominant minority able to extract surplus. They never created a surplus themselves but took it from others.

You were brought up in the West where it's the norm to have children out of wedlock. So I forgive you for your ignorance but there is nothing racist about rejecting someone from a bad tribe for your daughter who is of good lineage since they won't be compatible.
