Why are Somalis excited about the Oil being auctioned? Somalia is the most corrupt country on earth, these useless leaders don't even implement programs that are wholly funded by the International community.

Imagine what they will do with BILLIONS ? They will do what they are currently doing.

Somalis in the diaspora, especially, need to come together and form watch groups and find a way to empower the Somali parliament. The parliament needs to demand that the government publishes what happens to the state budget, what the salaries are for public officials and demand constant update on all the so-called programs the leadership announces.

Every Federal state needs full transparency, every local council also.


If we all stay silent and let this go on, we are doomed for eternity.

You are absolutely right but i think there are so many more problems than corruption:
1)All Federal States except PL have not full authority over their claimed borders.
2)Federal States have all disputed areas with other states and within the States there are many unsolved tribal conflicts.
3)There is no clear definition in how far FGS and Federal States share power. Is it a American State System with almost full sovereignty for Federal Members or a German System where the Federal States only operate in low areas such education questions.
4)Lack of Safety and Infrastructure almost anywhere in Somalia. I mean Xamar is protected by 30000 foreign soldiers for example

To sum it up it in my humble opinion it is nearly impossible to drill oil in the short to medium term. To fix all these problems you first need a competent goverment which is fully admitted to its people with no to little corruption. May Allah let it happen as soon as possible.

We have a very bad corruption issue and we need to deal with it asap.
It's not just the diaspora, in fact, I am certain that MOST of the public officials are locals, it's just the top jobs that may go to diaspora politicians.

Who runs local councils? Who gets their hands on the budget for the UN development projects? Who collects taxes of the local airports?

Both locals and diasporas are corrupt but let's not pretend that the locals are innocent of any of this.

Diaspora don't go back to be the accountant of a small town or village council, they don't go back to collect taxes, they go back for the bigger positions.

Even the MPs are mostly locals and they are the ones who have the most power yet are mutes.

In a perfect world, Somalia's government would have a fund where the proceeds of the resource exploration goes into;

• Security with amazing benefits for security forces
• Infrastructure with a focus on cheap and clean energy to attract investors.
• Education- mainly vocational colleges so that our youth have useful skills instead of useless degrees
• Basic income for every Somali national to boost the economy, this will also make working for AlShaydan/criminal groups unappealing.
• Public housing for low-income families
• TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY with public watch groups monitoring all government activity.

FAT salaries for public officials to prevent them from double dipping.


IF we had decent people with an average IQ leading us, this could be possible.

Yep! The problem starts with the so-called nabadoons and elders, they select someone from their tribe who then goes to Garowe to collect checks without doing work.

They are our number 1 problem.

After they're dealt with, we need to make Puntland establish a strong judicial branch who can slap the executive branch if it gets out of control.

Diaspora Puntites need to get together asap to fix this useless system.
