The Somali team was lead by Col Ahmed Mohamoud Farah who was minister of industry and mining at the time. Project had a lot of potential hopefully NTP is serious about implementing it

This drives home something I try to explain many times on here. The sinclair company found this gas long ago but walked away due to it not being worth their time.Just because resource found doesnt mean it will be drilled. Another example of oil that was left alone for long time is canada tar sands, but is now being extracted due to better pricing and better technology. Being able to say you have proven reserves requires alot of work

Proven oil reserves are those quantities of oil that, based on geological and engineering data, are estimated with a high degree of confidence (generally 90% or greater) to be commercially recoverable from known reservoirs under current economic and operating conditions.

Here's a more detailed explanation:
  • Definition:
Proven reserves are the oil that companies are certain they can extract and sell profitably, using current technology and under current economic conditions.

  • Certainty:
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) defines proven reserves as having a 90% or greater likelihood of being present and economically viable for extraction.

    • Factors Influencing Proven Reserves:
        • Geological and Engineering Data: Seismic testing, exploratory drilling, and analysis of reservoir characteristics are used to determine the size and recoverability of oil reserves.
        • Economic Conditions: Current oil prices, production costs, and market demand play a crucial role in determining which reserves are considered proven.
        • Technology: The availability and cost of extraction technologies also influence the classification of reserves.
        • Regulations: Government regulations and permits can impact the ability to extract and sell oil, affecting reserve classifications.

Back to NTP:

Strategic Objective 1: Increase electricity access from 61.9% to 80% of Somalia’s population by investing in alternative sources of energy mix to expand electrification of rural areas by 2029

Strategic Objective 2: Attaining energy inclusion and reducing 50% of electricity tariffs nationwide by 2029

I love everything except the tourism part, i'm extremely wary of tourism wallahi

inshallah all of this will be implemented (minus tourism) and we'll get to witness it
iA they laid out some very agressive goals for 5 year period. Even if they meet half it will improve lives of millions

yeah places like Philipines and Thailand show they ugly side of focusing too much on Tourism. Where country sells it soul and people for dollars
