Sxb, it's gross domestic product per capita that truly matters. Oman's population is and was always far less than Somalia's. Laakin Somalia weren't doing too bad, it's the wars and internal conflicts that screwed the country's economy over.

Actually total GDP is more appropriate in this case.

Oman has a much smaller population than Somalia yet they were able to create much more wealth in total.

You'd think that the more people a country has, the more wealthier it'll be since more people are able to work.

Also Oman became more wealthy after they started exporting oil in the 70s. Somalia should have also done the same instead of going into debt to pay to go to war with Ethiopia.

Doesnt Somalia also have oil? It's 2016 and we still can't take advantage of our natural resources.

Because the leaders were to greedy and dumb to take advantage of our resources.
He passed away in Rome after spending nearly 1 year to clear up the Norwegian oil scandal of 1985. He had brokered a deal with the Norwegian government to explore for oil in Somalia and the Somali government agreed. The Norwegians had deposited several million dollars with the Somali government to be used in explorations. The deal never panned out and Abdullahi who served as Ambassador to the Scandanavian countries had to go to Mogadishu to convince the government to proceed with the deal or to refund the Norwegians. MSB refused to proceed with the deal because of his advisors who cautioned him that if oil was discovered that credit would go to Abdullahi Isse and not him not to mention the oil drilling sites were in lands not inhabited by his qabiil. Abdullahi spent 1 year at the Al Uruba hotel and finally got the very last $ refunded and left Somalia before resigning as Ambassador. The Italian government, the very same government he fought to free Somalia from, gave him a residence permit and allowed him to stay in Rome for as long as he wished. When his passport expired, the regime in mogadishu refused to renew it and so he died effectively stateless.

Not sure if it's been proven that we have oil but considering our geographical position it's safe to assume we have huge untapped oil reserves.

We are stupid. And Somalia during the 1970-80s was even more stupid. Barre was busy flipping from pro America to pro Soviet. That was the time that we should have stuck with one of them and perhaps utilized their skills and developed our country.

We did sing Oil exploration contracts and I think it was with American Chevron. But after the 1977 war we were on a down spiral course.

Sxb, that's exactly what I said.
:ayaanswag:
If Oman's total GDP is high (relative to Somalia's) albeit having a far smaller population overall, that means their GDP per capita must be higher than Somalia's.

Waa caadhi though.

You can have a higher GDP per capita but a lower total GDP. Look at China vs European countries.

All it really tells you is how wealthy the average person in the country is.

I noticed alot of talking out of ass
Not much thinking here
Some guy even suggested something about 1969 being better or something even thoe the gdp in 69 were 300 million
And by the late 80s 1 billion 70% increase
Not to take in to account one country had oil the other didn't they passed somalia
Because 1.somalia pre 69 was ruled by trash who work for foreigners everything has to be built from ground up including teaching people how to write:deadrose:
As for the oil article he signed a oil contract the same year:deadrose:
So much for that article:deadrose:
