Somalia vs. Somaliland.. help me understand.?

I'm a Somali guy born in Hargeisa but came to Sweden at a young age and I'm embarrassed to say that I don't know my Somali history. I think it's important I understand. So plz someone explain to me what the difference is between Somalia and Somaliland.... why do they have different flags? People from Somaliland have a celebration May 18. Why are we separating ourselves aren't we all just one people???

Somaliland is the only way the few Isaaq children who were educated by the Britian empire could reclaim what was their destiny which is somaliland as real country under the leadership of the few children the British empire educated when they came to colonise that part of the world.

There is no difference. I did some research today, and it stood that the White Man divided the country into three parts. British, French and Italian Somaliland. To actually believe that some somalis today want to have a "country" where the borders was made by the white man is unbelievable.. There is no difference between somalis.. I am talking about the country Somalia.This is history, the white man divided the country.. I am against "Somaliland" because it is all nonsense. My ancestors fought against the British, so it is a shame to see that mentally enslaved somalis today are trying to work and enforce something my ancestors fought so many years against.. Somalia is always going to be ONE nation, whether you guys like it or not.

So true. I hope we all wake up, and realise that we are one people. Somalia is a beautiful country with many resources. It has so much potential.... The only thing that is holding us back is the people.
