National Audit Office says central government transferred funds to Somaliland

Mogadishu (SD) – The Auditor General of Somalia Dr. Mohamed Mohamud Ali Afgoye, recently published the annual report on financial audits of all the Somali government departments.
The report contain insights into the Somali government’s internal and external revenues and how they are managed, particularly in the ministries and regional administrations.
The Auditor General also said that the regional administrations and the Benadir region have not provided information on how they spent $ 78 million from the federal government.
National Auditor General Mohamed Mohamud Ali said in his report that the Somaliland government, as one of the regional administrations, has been provided funds by the federal government as part of asset allocation.
The report added that the Somaliland administration had failed to disclose how and what the funds were used for.
Somaliland declared its independence from Somalia in 1991, this is the first time that the federal government has been showed it subsidizes Somaliland’s economy, just like the other Somali federal regions.
