SOMALILAND CONSUMER PRICE INDEX
The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of Planning &National Development (MoP&ND), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of April2018 (Base year 2012=100).

Highlights of CPI, May 2018.

1. Annual Inflation
The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending May 2018 decline at 17.6percent compared to the 18.3 percent recorded during the year ended April 2018.

The Annual Food Crops Inflation which decline to 20.1 percent for the year ending May 2018 compared to 20.4 percent recorded for the year ended April 2018. The driver of Annual Food Crops Inflation were Peas dry decline to minus26.8 percent for the year ending May 2018 compared to the minus 3.1 percent registered during the year ended April 2018. In addition, Dates inflation registered a 16.2 percent decreased for the year ending May 2018 compared to the 21.9 percent recorded for the year ended April 2018.similarly, mainly due the Mangoes, avocado peainflation a decline15.2 percent for the ending year ending May 2018 compared to 30.6 percent recorded for year ended April 2018.

The Annual Core Inflation also significance decline to 16.5 percent for the year ending May 2018 compared to the 18.0 percent recorded for the year ended April 2018. This was driven by the Bread and cereals inflation that registered 10.0 percent decline the ending May 2018 compared to 12.6 percent recorded during the year ended April 2018. In addition Meat inflation declineto16.1 percent for the year ending May2018 compared to the 23.9 percent recorded for the year endedApril 2018.Similarly, Milk, cheese and eggs inflation decline to 10.4 percent for the year ending May 2018 compared to the 16.0 percent recorded for the year ended April 2018.

In addition, the Annual Energy Inflation, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) increase to 25.5 percent for the year ending May 2018 compared to the 18.0 percent recorded during the year ended April 2018. The drivers were Water National Company Annual inflation that rose up 52.6 percent for the year ending May 2018 compared to minus 15.5 percent recorded for the year ended April 2018.In addition, the Petrol inflation that increases to 71.4 percent for the year ending May 2018 compared to 33.3 percent recorded in April 2018. Similarly, the Diesel Inflation increase by 33.3 percent in May 2018 compared 21.7 percent recorded in April 2018.

2. Monthly Inflation
The Monthly Headline Inflation for May 2018 increase by 2.2 percent compared 0.8 percent recorded in April 2018. Food crop & related items monthly Inflation increase by 3.0 percent in May 2018 compared minus 1.0 percent recorded in April 2018. While Core monthly inflation that decline 1.3 percent during May 2018 compared the 1.5 percent recorded in April 2018. However, the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation increase by 10.4 percent for the month of May 2018 compared minus 3.3 percent recorded during April 2018.
