Each year during the rainy seasons the Hargeisa-Gabiley Borama Corridor produces 60-70 thousand tonnes of sorghum and Maize....and that's only through rain-fed farming by local farmers....the total cereal grain consumption in Somaliland is around 300,000 tonnes which means majority of food is imported to supplement for the difference....Somaliland could easily feed it's self if projects are undertaken that involve diverting season rivers to agricultural land, drilling more wells, building dams, reservoirs etc. this would allow farming even during the dry season meaning more domestic production and less imports ....
