Monthly Consumer Price Index (March 2018)
The Central Statistics Department of the Ministry of Planning & National Development (MoNP&D), has released the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the month of March 2018 (Base year 2012=100).
Highlights of CPI, March. 2018.
1. Annual Inflation
The Annual Headline Inflation for the year ending March 2018 decline at 18.9 percent compared to the 19.1 percent recorded during the year ended February 2018.
The Annual Food Crops Inflation which decline to 23.0 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to 26.2 percent recorded for the year ended February 2018. The driver of Annual Food Crops Inflation were Lettuce decline to minus 68.9 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to the minus 60.4 percent registered during the year ended February 2018. In addition, Leeks (Basal baar) inflation registered a minus 17.6 percent increased for the year ending March 2018 compared to the 11.8 percent recorded for the year ended February 2018. On the other hand, mainly due the Melon inflation a decline minus 12.0 percent for the ending year ending March 2018 compared to minus 31.2 percent recorded for year ended February 2018.
The Annual Core Inflation also significance increase to 17.7 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to the 17.5 percent recorded for the year ended February 2018. This was driven by the Maintenance and repair of personal transport equipment inflation that registered 26.0 percent increase the ending March 2018 compared to the minus 23.1 percent recorded during the year ended February 2018. Similarly, Oils and Fats inflation increase to 19.5 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to the 10.4 percent recorded for the year ended February 2018.
In addition, the Annual Energy, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) Inflation increase to 27.1 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to the 25.9 percent recorded during the year ended February 2018. The drivers were Charges – Use of Electricity Annual inflation that increase 58.1 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to 35.5 percent recorded for the year ended February 2018. In addition, the Gas (natural and liquefied) inflation that rose to 51.2 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to minus 13.9 percent recorded in February 2018. Similarly, the Petrol Inflation increase by 36.7 percent in March 2018 compared 26.2 percent recorded in February 2018.
2. Monthly Inflation
The Monthly Headline Inflation for March 2018 dropped by 0.5 percent compared 0.6 percent recorded in February 2018. Core monthly inflation that decline 0.2 percent during March 2018 compared the 0.7 percent recorded in February 2018. Similarly, the Food crop & related items Inflation increase by 0.3 percent in March 2018 compared minus 0.2 percent recorded in February 2018. However, the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation constant by 0.6 percent for the month of March 2018 compared 0.6 percent recorded during February 2018.

Similarly, Oils and Fats inflation increase to 19.5 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to the 10.4 percent recorded for the year ended February 2018.
In addition, the Annual Energy, Fuels and Utilities (EFU) Inflation increase to 27.1 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to the 25.9 percent recorded during the year ended February 2018. The drivers were Charges – Use of Electricity Annual inflation that increase 58.1 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to 35.5 percent recorded for the year ended February 2018. In addition, the Gas (natural and liquefied) inflation that rose to 51.2 percent for the year ending March 2018 compared to minus 13.9 percent recorded in February 2018. Similarly, the Petrol Inflation increase by 36.7 percent in March 2018 compared 26.2 percent recorded in February 2018.
2. Monthly Inflation
The Monthly Headline Inflation for March 2018 dropped by 0.5 percent compared 0.6 percent recorded in February 2018. Core monthly inflation that decline 0.2 percent during March 2018 compared the 0.7 percent recorded in February 2018. Similarly, the Food crop & related items Inflation increase by 0.3 percent in March 2018 compared minus 0.2 percent recorded in February 2018. However, the Monthly Energy Fuel & utilities Inflation constant by 0.6 percent for the month of March 2018 compared 0.6 percent recorded during February 2018.
