Sounds barbaric and unprofessional to target Somali communities based on tribal linage when Arab & other African refugees are welcomed with open arms.

In normal countries they use identification papers/documents to identify people, in Somalia they use your qabiil plus family name someone will always recognize you family and its not easy to lie about it.

In normal countries they use identification papers/documents to identify people, in Somalia they use your qabiil plus family name someone will always recognize you family and its not easy to lie about it.

And besides Somalis who stayed for a long time in big cities will inevitably share their clans and sub clans. Somalis are social and very curious by nature especially up north were clan borders are more defined where a single sub clan dominantes an entire district unlike south Somalia where every district is diverse and shared with dozens of sub clans & minorities so they're less territorial and qabilist than average northern clan.

It was likely the local officers already knew which xafad, maqaxi, restaurant or business frequented by each community.
