With all that arable land in Somalia 600,000 people still died from famine. Even with the drought going right now there aren't large numbers of people dying in Somaliland.

Add in the fact that we have the longest coast line in Africa, Somalia's energy potential and an abundance of natural resources and you can see why Ethiopia's foreign policy is simply the destruction of the Somali state simply because there is no other alternative. Forget Ogaden, even if we conquered her back, Ethiopia would still not change because we would dominate her economically and geo-politically. There is nothing to compare to Somaliland who is already having water problems and is a desert. You have no other choice but to join Somalia because your land is useless.
