Mohamed Bile Farah Yaqub was an officer in the RRU stationed in Laascaanood possibly for the May 18 event

He hailed from the HJ, Biciide reer Iidle and was a a ranked officer Captain within the Rapid Response Unit of Somaliland Police.

It isn't clear if he had been killed off duty or on duty but the time of the murder he was walking towards the police station which indicates it was a targeted assassination of sorts.

Reports coming from Sool’s provincial capital indicate that one police man killed after gunfire was exchanged at camp where Rapid Response Unit is stationed in the east of the township.

The gunfire was exchanged by the policemen stationed in the camp as the gunshots could be heard all across the city. Details are sketchy as Somaliland officials have not spoken of the incident.

Somaliland region: Reports Of Police Officer Killed In Las Anod

Reports are coming in of the killing of one police officer and the wounding of another at the RRU barracks in Las Anod. The killing occurred after an exchange of gunfire in the compound between members of the Somaliland Police Force’s anti-riot squad, the RRU.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that the one fatality and the wounded officer came from the same community, and the attack appears to be a retaliation for the killing of two other Somaliland officers near the town of Garadag earlier this month.

Neither the Somaliland Police Force nor the ministry of the Home Affairs have yet to comment on the situation.

Somaliland will be celebrating it’s 28th anniversary of the reclamation of sovereignty on the 18th of a May, with dignitaries from several foreign nations attending the celebrations.
