Somalis and the Hijab

Backdrop: Kacaan was dead against the spread of Islam, and wearing hijab and strict Muslim attire for men was not only discouraged, but prohibited more so for women, for instance leaders of Ikhwan al Muslimin and Wahdah movements had been vilified, arrested with their movement closely monitored. There had been accounts of family members arrested; females in my family had been wearing hijab for generations.

I came to realise Somalis are not monolithic, some strictly practised Islam for generations whereas others are only so in name, are more liberal, socially or otherwise, and consider Islam more of an imposition in their lives. I met people in both categories, and had to accept said reality.

The civil war did make everyone more religious my mum doesn’t have pictures form back when she was in Somalia but she does have pictures when she came to Europe and she dressed like how the average young Somali woman did back home in the late 80s and early 90s on the contrary I don’t like how liberal Somalis online act like absolutely nobody in Somalia wore a hijab when in reality they some did some didn’t.

All the jilbabs and niqabs got the liberal xalimos pissed off tbh. If xalimos still dressed the same way from back in the 80s than I'm willing to bet most of them wouldn't be as pissed.

As the country becomes more prosperous I genuinely believe we will start seeing more non hijabis. Especially in the cities.

Ppl in Somalia who observe the hijab might as well take it off with the way they are acting on TikTok the app should be banned.

The plane crush was the consequence of their killings, but they were shot dead. Here is the background. The bastard himself speaking, the most ignorant person ever.

Good Siad barre slayed the terrorist Saudi puppets they were in our country to spread Wahhabism they weren’t successful during Siads time however once he died they were now look in Somalia you have terrorists running around and they recently got 8k new soldiers
From 1982 to 2005 in an effort to spread Wahhabi Islam, over $75 billion was spent

What is your opinion on Somali women on TikTok? In one video, they are wearing a hijab, and in the next one, they are not wearing one. It’s pretty confusing, especially for those who wear a hijab outside the house but not on TikTok.
Fobs or Diaspora because both of them do it and it makes the hijab redundant and it’s embarrassing when you see some girls wearing the hijab and they are twerking or doing some degenerate shit like

Rural people are often ignorant of their own religion^1, compare how rural somalis dressed to how urban somalis dressed and it’s clear that even though after 1991 the reer miiyi won a political victory by knocking Somalia back to the era of clans and camels the reer magal won the social victory.

1. There’s a story from WW1 of a bunch of rural Bedouin Turks being asked who their prophet was and saying β€œImam Hanafi” , or the β€œSultan” and being asked how many times they pray and saying β€œhow many times we hear the adhan”, or β€œwhen fhe rooster crows”.
