there seems to be a good amount of arab-somalis on this forum so im wondering where these arab orgins come from? ive heard before that theyre are tribes in somalia that have arab ancestors like yemen but i have a friend whos ancestors were from oman aswell and hes somali. do most somalis have some arab dna or is it just some specific tribes?? ive always thought most somalis lookalike despite some being arab and somali, can different tribes tell each other apart??

The vast majority of Somalis do not posses much Arabian ancestry, and even that Arabian ancestry can be questioned it's likely through "intra-mixing" with northern Cushites that we do get that minor Arabian ancestry rather than directly.

Some Somalis do posses T or J haplogroups as other users have said previously but they are in the minority, the vast majority of Somalis are EV32 linking them back to Lower Nubia our original homeland before we migrated towards the Horn.

All of us are Arab. 90% of Somalis I have met in my life, their first language is Arabic and they profess Arab origins. Wallahi

Somali is usually the third language. For me, my first language is Arabic, then is english which I had learned in school, and third Somali which I recently learned during my trip to Hargeisa 2.5 years ago

The matter is not limited to claiming Arab lineage, as there are West Africans or Asians who claim Hashemite lineage. Therefore, there are Arab genealogy books written by Arab historians. They should claim that your tribe is Arab. For example, when you previously searched for the Darood family, you will find that they exist. Genealogy books for Arabs were written by Arab historians, but genetically, no, they are not Arabs. I just think a Somali is a Somali. Only he is not Arab or sub-Saharan African, maybe we are close to each other in culture

All Somalis have Arabian DNA. The amount differs depending on what region you're from.

As for how people self-identify, many Ethnic Somalis without any recent Arabian origin identify with being Arabs because they're Arabised. Whereas, some Somalis have more recent Arabian/Arab ancestry.
