Is there a genetic explanation for this? I don't see this much diversity among other horners but maybe I'm wrong. Somalis are genetically super close to each other, Habesha and Oromo are more diverse amongst themselves.

Nope. She’s fully Somali. She’s MJ on both sides. She did an AMA on Somalispot and answered this herself. You can’t guess people’s clans off how they look.
She looks full Somali anyways. She looks like your average lightskin Somali tbh.
Reer Xamars have large noses and can pass as hindi or an ambiguous hindi mix. They don’t look like horners. She looks nothing like Reer Xamars.
They aren’t really mixed with Arabs btw. They’re mixed with South Asians. They claim Arab because they’re ashamed of their hindi DNA and don’t want to be judged by Somalis lol.

I’ve seen Oromos as dark as us. It’s even.
Habesha are highlanders living in the mountains. Mountainous people are shorter and lighter. We are lowlanders and living on the coast so we’ll naturally be darker and taller.
Of course there’s dark highlanders and light lowlanders and everything in between though.

Well of course. There's even Habesha as dark as us but on average promos especially the ones in Addis etc are maybe slightly lighter than us. Afars seem to have our same complexion maybe because of the similar climate
My bad I didn't know. She is very light, definitely not that common among Somalis but I've seen those types too.

She’s not that light. I think it was just the terrible lighting. I picked bad photos because I just grabbed the first photos I googled of her tbh. It’s too late for me to edit and replace the photos.
These pictures below are a better representation of her complexion. It’s not that unusual of a complexion to see in Somalis. She’s barely a bit lighter than a brownskin but she’s still brown tbh.
I think these photos have better lighting. She looks like your typical lightskin xalimo.

as for the topic, my dear @malab, we come in so many different but beautiful sizes, shades and features. i love it
i also believe that locating to a different environment and being raised with different diet will have an affect on our features down the line

There's a phenotype cline/continuum amongst Somalis, ranging from the Arab-looking Somalis who resemble their Natufian ancestors; in the middle you have the common Somali look that is similar to the bi-racial look and then lastly there are Somalis with the Nilotic/Black African look.
This difference in phenotypes also applies to other Horner and Sudanese ethnic groups [excluding the Rashaida Arabs who don't have much Black African dna].

What do you mean? I see the same diversity among other Horners, to be honest. Maybe not as much in terms of hair texture but you'll see a dhuxul Xabashi and jaalo Xabashi in the same family plenty of times. They're as diverse as us in this respect. And personally I just see it as the Horn's equivalent to how cadaans vary in terms of hair pigmentation. In one fam you'll get a brunette with brown eyes and blonde with blue eyes or a green eyed sandy blonde or a redhead with green eyes. Horner complexion and hair texture variation can follow a similar intriguing variety within one family simply because we descend from a diverse ancestral pool where there would have been coal black Nilotic types, olive-skinned MENA types, straight-haired people, nappy-haired people and so on.
In my observation Somali clans look different not Individuals. The more South you go the less people look like me. I am not talking about Bantus, I am talking about other Somali clans. Northerners have an Unique look
