We were never your “clients”, in fact it was the other way around. Oromos were victims to frequent raids and conquests by Somalis who were more organized and better equipped. In one raid, Sheikh Murgan Yusuf of Muhammad Zubier raided the Oromo tribes and captured 30,000 livestock and 8000 female slaves, now imagine that but spread out over the centuries we’ve been neighboring one another.
German historian, Philipp Paulitschke put it aptly, "The Somali must be imagined to be always on the offensive, especially in the southern area where the people are spread, and the Galla are always on the defensive. The Somali are victorious on all fronts, the Oromo are defeated everywhere.. in the south the Somali are waging a war of extermination against the Galla."
