Sudan Conflict Updates: Army vs RSF

Damn, the army is clearing them quicker than I thought :gucciwhat:

Any prospect of an RSF takeover of Khartoum died in the first couple of hours after they launched their assault. They’d built up maximum forces around the most critical locations before SAF had mobilised and still weren’t able to deal any deadly blows.

Once the SAF can secure the capital and Nile Valley, Hemedti is probably done. A real concern is the RSF using civilians as human shields to buy time.

Completely agree, especially the second part. It all depends on what desperate measures RSF resort to. Though, I don’t think it’s completely done for Hamedti, as he can resort to the parts of Darfur region his paramilitary forces controls.

But it seems like the army’s main objective is to primarily secure the capital. Once they’ve alivevated all threats to its rule, then slowly encroach RSF westwards. Though, that operation appears to have already started in Darfur. It will mainly focus on strategic areas, as other rebels also have presence in the region.

Darfur is probably not enough as a base to hold out for long. It'd be like Galbeed/Afar trying to hold out against Amhara/Oromia. If you've got the Nile Valley & Khartoum you have Sudan.

The Baggara won't have the cajones to be subject to aerial bombardment and artillery barrages, so they'll likely kiss the ring very soon -- even in Darfur and Kordofan.

The Baggara Arabs have thoroughly earned the hatred of the Fur, Zaghawa, Masalit, Nuba and the South, so they'll not challenge their benefactor and protector for too long.

Hard to compete against air power and a lack of civilian support. A negotiation is very likely at this point and RSF will be starting from a much weaker position.

It looks like Hemedti didn't think this through at all; you need your tribe or region to support you; and you need a neighbouring Nation to provide you with weapons, ammunition and supplies...

..The South had all of this when we had to rise up against Khartoum's program of land-theft of mineral rich Southern territories in the 1960s.

He probably thought it'd be the 2021 coup, done in a few hours

Then he's an idiot and deserves what's coming to him.

The only thing that makes me sad about this whole thing is Nilo-Saharans (indigenous Darfurians) allowing themselves to be used as soldiers ("cannon fodder") by people that hate them, without cause.

Probably would be better for everyone if darfur joined Chad or was independent.

Problem with newly independent countries though, is missing out on 60+ years of institutionalism. East Timor, Eritrea, etc. Probably isn't even worth it, makes sense to be committed to Sudan despite being a dalit there

Darfur was actually an independent Sultanate until 1916; and virtually every ethnic group that resides there is also found in Chad.

You're right, it's probably best for them to remain as part of Sudan, however, they don't have to fight and die for it; they should step back and let other groups (those in power) fight and die for Sudan.
