Sudanese reporter for Sky News attacked by mob while reporting in Congo as she looked Tutsi

They do that because the attackers are the ones they politically align with. The situation in DRC is complex; the Bantus have a deep hatred for the Tutsi, and the Tutsi inhabitants have been receiving a lot of issues to the point where their nativity is questioned. The government is always giving them lip service into recognizing them as having their own territory but no actions come from it.

The paramilitary rebel groups that are powered by Rwanda are committing atrocities toward the Bantu inhabitants. I think that includes Hutu rebels. The Banyamulenge are getting discriminated against while the Rwandan politically charged groups are doing a lot of killings, and the Congolese Bantus are getting extremely xenophobic, and the local Tutsis sort of have to rely on the Rwandans that do dirt to protect them. It's very messy and unfortunate.

WTF

Notice how Sky News trivializes the attack on its reporter in Goma because the militias thought she looked vaguely Tutsi.
She is extremely naive. Her White western colleagues (if there are any there) will be spared if it really pops off. She will be treated like a Tutsi Rwandan if she gets stuck in a crazy Situation. She needs to leave asap. If the locals already tried to attack her simply due to her features imagine if she is stuck there when she hits the fan.

I hope Garad Kagame protects the folks.

"horn african" looking or adjacent groups truly deal with ridiculous levels of xenophobia in many of these nations yet it's entirely framed as if we're the perpetrators nearly everywhere we go. Still insane to me how Somalis are seen as the "villains" in Kenya by so many people considering our annexation into that land and the massacres and long list of discrimination we've faced
