The hashtag #SueMeSaudi is soaring after a source at the Saudi Arabian justice ministry reportedly said he would sue a Twitter user who compared Saudi Arabia to the terror group "Islamic State."

Here, a Twitter user has retweeted an image originally created by the online news portal MiddleEastEye.net that breaks down and compares Saudi Arabia's policies with those of "IS."


Another image that's being tweeted and retweeted is this political cartoon from Peter Brookes, which graphically depicts the similarities in capital punishment exercised by IS and Saudi Arabia.

Also Saudis are given the blind eye by the US cause they have a deep and weird relationship that dates back all the way to the 30s. Since they found oil, president FDR made a deal with them to have access to their oil markets and set up military bases there in exchange they would provide security to the Saudis.

In retrospect, the deal was great for both sides. US has huge land and naval bases in Saudi Arabia right on the edge of the sea and in land where they can deploy and extract troops into and from any neighboring middle eastern countries..this proved to be vital in the Desert Storm war, Iraq war and even the Afghanistan war. The oil deal was also smart cuz the automobile industry blew up a couple decades later. Worked out pretty nice for the Saudis too, in a region dominated by tyranny, violence and turmoil, their country is still very safe from any of that.

And then again in the cold war the Saudis proved to be a reliable ally to the US, even though they were neighboured by Soviet allied Egypt and Syria.

Again in the 80s when the CIA instated the shah (forgot his name ) and got overthrown during the Islamic revolution, the Saudis came to the Americans side and to this day are united with them against Iran. Different reasons ( Saudi hates the Shia theocracy and the agenda their pushing in Iraq, Lebanon and currently Yemen) but united against the same enemy.

Oh I forgot to mention, the most fucked up part of this relationship is how the US has been routinely selling the Saudis billions of dollars of weapons. Just go ahead and google US saudi weapons deal right now and see what pops up. And we all know were those end up.
