It's the difference between someone who's lost the will to live and has only a loss of self and a painful circumstance to endure (prolonging death), and the murder of a perfectly healthy human being who presumably would like to live on.Why not? 100 years is more than enough.
Society won't change when the same dogmas continue to live on forever - people hardly change once certain believes are solidified. That's one of the few things death is good for.
In my mind, an anti-aging discovery is practically dystopian. I imagine this scenario where it would induce genocide and ethnic cleansing of the vast majority of the human population to produce a contained population of designer beings thought worthy of extended life. If the government decides when you die, surely they're also deciding who's born and when too, maybe even who gets with who at that point surely.
