Here’s a concise reminder on the Sunnahs to follow for Eid, based on the Qur'an and authentic Sunnah:
1. Shower (Ghusl)
It's recommended to perform Ghusl before heading out to the Eid prayer (Sahih al-Bukhari).
2. Wear the best clothes
Eid is a day of celebration. Dress in your best clothes, ideally new or clean ones (Sunan Ibn Majah).
3. Eat before the prayer on Eid al-Fitr
Eat a few dates before going to the prayer (Sahih Muslim). Don’t eat before the Eid al-Adha prayer, though.
4. Give Zakat al-Fitr
Before the Eid prayer, ensure you give Zakat al-Fitr to purify your fast and help the needy (Sahih al-Bukhari).
5. Say Takbir
Recite "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillahil hamd" (Sunan Abu Dawood).
6. Go to the prayer in the morning
Walk to the prayer ground, and it's recommended to go by a different route than you came back (Sahih al-Bukhari).
