Imagine, the only reason Swahili is known more than the other kenyatti languages is because of the Slave Trade. They asserted their dominance through enslaving their own kin to arabs, but think they’re better than other foreign languages. It’s one thing to have a language forced down your throat like french and english and it’s another to willingly adopt it over your own. If Somalia wasn’t so fucked up we would’ve been the dominant country in East (+ central since they follow east around) Africa.

That's what I don't get about Pan-Africanists who promote Swahili as the lingua franca for all of Africa? They hate European languages for the looting, slavery, mistreatment etc., but ignore the fact that Swahili emerged out of the Arab slave trade and started off as a pidgin between enslaved people and Afro-Arab slave traders.

Luckily West Africans aren't interested in Swahili. It is mostly only the Bantu countries who like it since Swahili gives them an edge in learning it (same grammar as their own languages and many cognates).

Right like what happened to translators??? Europeans speak their respective languages. Same with Asians. Africans won’t grow a backbone suddenly by learning this language

It is not grammatically simple. It has a notorious case system and is harder in this aspect than even German.

I think its phonology/pronunciation sounds childish, not necessarily it being a simple language grammatically.

No way, this isn't fair at all. They are keeping the shaabaaaab in business. They are also slowly taking Somalia piece by piece whether it's through pushing the kids into accepting their waran flag or paying extremist organizations. This must not happen. This must not happen. I will literally erase the somali world from my vocabulary if the KENYATIS push for more power in Africa.

@Apollo @Qeelbax swahili is not useful. in kenya they speak english so you dont even need swahili to communicate. and swahili is not a language of education. and even ugandans dont really speak it kkk. and our economy has never been connected to those countries apart from kenyan khat and taxing somali businesses. or the old slave trade.

Mixing unrelated language families is unwieldy.

If Esperanto was solely based on Romance, it would have looked better (like Interlingua does). Mixing Romance and Slavic is just weird.

Many of the language nerds/polyglots don't like Esperanto. It has no future.
