Somalia's civil war ended in 2006. Al-Shabab are simply non-state actors fighting the government.

The occasional mooryan chimpout doesn't constitute a civil war.

It's really just terminology. Nigeria the sahel, congo, and Mozambique just to name a few have massive insurgencies in large parts of the country. Even a local in these countries have a high risk of being kidnapped or killed travelling through the country. There are routine mass cares where hundreds of civilians get killed monthly. Soem of these countries have dozens of militas rampaging through the countryside . Yet somalia is the one in civil war?

I think that is a good ththing because that means its much easier to increase the living standards of the average somali.

The only negative I can think of is war and industrial capacity as you have less workers or soldiers.

Not with land that big though somalia is significantly bigger than a place like California and is as long as the US, length wise, its just too big for the pop to be 20 mil or so needs to be at least 40-50 even with that sized pop we should see decent living standards.

With such a large landmass and such a weak official government its fails to exert its authority outside of its immediate vicinity. Thus clans and militias can run free without fear of repercussion. Somalias government needs a monopoly on violence as a multipolar state can lead to unrest and instability.

For example America is a complete opposite their government is so strong its authority goes well beyond it’s own borders and covers much of the world.

I’ve seen Chinese, Oromos, South Asians,Xabeshi,Yemenis & Syrians the last time I was there back in 2018. South Asians are there either in construction/IT or Tablighi Jamaat missionaries. Syrians were either dentists/doctors or full-time beggars. Yemenis tended to be the most industrious immigrant group
