Al shabaab militants on Wednesday abducted a 6-year old girl from her family in Harbole town, Gedo region, Somalia.

The distraught family said the militants came to the house and demanded for the girl.The girl lives with albinism.

“The kidnappers stormed into the house in the middle of the night and demanded to be shown where the girl was sleeping. They picked her up from her bed and bundled her into a vehicle,” her father Abdiker Weli said.

The militants who numbered about five spoke in the Somali language. Weli said they did not steal anything from the house.

Suspected Al-Shabab fighters kidnap district officers in Gedo region

GARBAHARE (Halbeeg) – Suspected Al-Shabab fighters have reported abducted two district officers in overnight attacks in Gedo region.

Heavily armed Al-Shabab fighters simultaneously attacked Shatalow and Adaley towns under Luuq district of Gedo region.

Sources say the fighters kidnapped Abdullahi Kusow Mohamed and Ahmed Omar who are the administrators of Shatalow and Adaley divisions respectively.

Al-Shabab also made away with a vehicle belonging to the administrator of Bakale village after the official fled from the village prior the raid.

Gedo (HOL) - A combined joint task force comprised of the Somali National Army (SNA) and Jubaland security forces killed 11 Al-Shabaab fighters on Monday during an afternoon raid on a suspected Al-Shabaab base in southern Somalia.

Jubaland Darawish commander, Gen. Jamal Hassan Farey announced that the SNA/Jubaland troops now occupy the base.

The forces conducted the assault on what they believe was a new base for the militant insurgency group in a village 50km from Beled Hawo.

Jubbaland administration in southern Somalia announced it has mobilized hundreds of troops for fresh offensives against the Al Qaeda-linked Al Shabaab militants. Jubbaland security minister Abdirashid Janan said the new offensive is aimed at liberating areas remaining under the control of Al-Shabaab, mainly Gedo and Jubba regions.


Janan added that the operation will be unleashed in the coming weeks with the support of Somali and Africa Union forces in the region. The Kenya-backed Jubbaland has previously announced similar operations to take back springboards from what has been beleaguered militant group. Al-Shabaab maintains to hold the whole Middle Jubba region and other large swathes of ground in Lower Jubba and Gedo provinces in southwest of Somalia.

Somali forces have repulsed a major Al-Shabab attack on the town of Bardhere in Gedo region in the early hours of Tuesday. At least 13 people were with more than 20 injured.

Al-Shabaab fighters attacked the Jubbaland forces located at the bridge of Bardhere. But the Government troops have scored another victory as they failed Al-Shabab attempt to overrun Bardhere military base.

Two of the Al-Shabab militants who attacked Bardhere town earlier this morning was captured by Government forces.
