A Tanzanian-Somali enterpreneur who had settled in Mogadishu to start up Somalia’s first post civil war laundry and florist was on Thursday fatally shot in the Somali capital.

Mohamed Sheikh Ali who is the Chapter Director Start Up Grind Mogadishu was attacked by unknown gunmen near the Banadir junction.

Ali was pronounced dead at a Mogadishu hospital after surgery.

In 2012 Ali established Premium the first dry cleaning business and Amber Gardens florist, the first since the civil war erupted in 1991.

The young enterpreneur had won the hearts of many in Mogadishu where he remained optimistic to be part of rebuilding Somalia.

Ali was a judge on Inspire Somalia TV show which is an entrepreneurial competition in Somalia

In August 2015 he founded the Start Up Grind Mogadishu Chapter

He most likely refused to pay the terrorist tax that everyone else pays. He died with dignity. AUN.

Xamar is more diverse Qabiil wise then you think. It’s not always clans taking each other out.

This guy was taken out by other competitor business men who were envious of his profit margins and immediate success. It’s very easy to asassinate someone, all you gotta do is pay some random poor dhalinyaro and give home a gun and a target and he will get the job done.

Many businesses are co-owned between Hawiye-Darood, Darood-Rahenweyne, you even have Isaaq-Darood businesses, in Xamar you are powerful through the language of commerce, and there are two ways to reach the top of the chain when it comes to business in Xamar. Through either corruption or honest hard work.

This is 2018, not pre-2006. There is no such thing as clan A businessmen taking out Clan B businessmen over things like Qabiil when it is purely based on competition nowadays. Clan A businessman would even take out his own tribesmen if it means moving up the ladder and freeing up competition.

You are just baselessly speculating and thinking you are correct when in fact you are just being lazy with your analysis.

Maybe the locals should not associate with politicians.

Some people I know who went to Xamar and are not from the local clans were spoken to by Al Shabab and warned not to associate with politicians just hours after arriving. This is why I don't believe it when people say no one knows you in Xamar because it's too big of a city and no one knows your clan. Xamar is just like any Somali city. They know everyone and they will not get your personal information from your family directly but from others.

These types of murders dont happen in other Somali citties e.g. Hargaysa, Garowe. The problem in Xamar though is that you have a bottomless number of garac Hawiyie kids who grew up in stolen houses and who have zero issue killing and stealing just for the thrill of it.
