I haven't met a Somali family that does not celebrate Thanksgiving yet. I mean we get a turkey and we do the whole dance of watching the parade and college football. Reer UK what holiday do y'all celebrate?

Most people celebrate, and consider Thanksgiving non-religious, but it is, with its roots in Protestants denomination of Christianity.

Guy Fawkes used to be a fishing stint for our crowd along Thames banks.

Let me guess you live in highly populated Somali city? Sxb I haven't met any who don't yet. Thanksgivings and Halloween are the norms.
I live in a city where there is maybe 120ish other somalis. Not a single one celebrates a holiday like those. Must be your area

I never met a somali family that DOES celebrate thanksgiving. What circles are you running around?! :ummhmm:

we barely celebrate eid, forget thanksgiving :mjcry:
Sxb you need to celebrate Eid specially, but we do thanksgiving because everyone is off and we would like to see each other. It's not often that you see family in america due to people schedules. We swich family is cooking the bird each year so people don't have to struggle cooking it each time.

Some of these non Americans might try to diss you about celebrating Thanksgiving.

It's a major holiday where basically everyone is off from school and work.it's a perfect day to eat and hang out with family.

My family celebrates every year since we don’t see each other much, so it’s a good opportunity to come together and catch up ,and my grandma makes the best turkey!

We don’t necessarily celebrate Thanksgiving, but our extended family does gather for a get together and duca for waalidka dhintey. Thanksgiving break is the perfect time for this because everyone is still in state, as school is still in after the break and the adults that work take the bulk of their paid vacations out of state during December.

Why are north americans somalis outside of MN so liberal?

Many are, many arent.

Thanksgiving is not a religious holiday. It is to mark the Fall harvest. It is just a feast tradition that started between the Ali Beysteen and settlers before winter begins.
