I hope to see future generations of Somalis capitalize on this in the futureYeah geography is key. The area is fertile with rivers flowing throughout the year. It has ports for import and export and it’s close to the Banaadir metropolis. You could capitalise on all these factors if you play your cards right.
Laasqoray was its own regionView attachment 314777
I found this online what do you guys think should these provinces have been left as is ?
it was its own district but regionally it was part of Waqooyi BariLaasqoray was its own region
U have no clue. Federalism in a tribal society grows to be clan based confederacy and this can literally be seen in somali poltics and governance of todayI support federalism especially when it comes to local develoment this is more of a discussion about whether the 18 current provinces we have now are viable currently
Since all other regions have been split into 2 or 3 I think Hiiraan should also be split. All 7 other regions become 10 extra I don’t see why hiiraan should not have an extra regionView attachment 314777

It can grow to be a clan based federalism, doesn't have to be clan confederacy as long as powers are defined, limited and followed properly.U have no clue. Federalism in a tribal society grows to be clan based confederacy and this can literally be seen in somali poltics and governance of today
Well somali society is a different story since everyone wants to centralize with their clan...federalism will never work with us and this was known from the get-goIt can grow to be a clan based federalism, doesn't have to be clan confederacy as long as powers are defined, limited and followed properly.
North East was Bari.it was its own district but regionally it was part of Waqooyi Bari
Most of these states are qabiil based anyway and there's no sign that any clan is significantly abusing powers, like in sws and galmudug the clans have figured out a way to share power.Well somali society is a different story since everyone wants to centralize with their clan...federalism will never work with us and this was known from the get-go

In the British protectorate modern day Sanaag was Erigavo region and Laasqoray region
Local government can be like this but states being clan based is our downfall...ur basing ur conclusion on how things unfolded in the past but arent we capable of coming up with systems that go around these shortcomings while building unified government? Can we not envision something bigger?.. in a globalizing world u want to remain in a clan based system and weak central government? Then we will definitely end up as pawns in someones game (which im sure we are already)Most of these states are qabiil based anyway and there's no sign that any clan is significantly abusing powers, like in sws and galmudug the clans have figured out a way to share power.
And even if like you said one clan tries to dominate its related sub clans or the federal state it will be easier to solve as these are either related or have lived together for centuries and historically devised way to solve their issues, and if the worst case scenario happens the rest of the country will be insulated from all the chaos in that federal state.
Unlike in a central gov where unrelated clans or geographically disparate clans have to share power and most of the investment and migration happens towards the capital city, and if that one city goes to shit we are all finished.
I'm making peace with reality. Somalis identify/group themselves by qabiil and many are willing to destroy the country if a state abuses them and will cause problems if they are denied seats for example.Local government can be like this but states being clan based is our downfall...ur basing ur conclusion on how things unfolded in the past but arent we capable of coming up with systems that go around these shortcomings while building unified government? And by far the largest in terms of population. Mogadishu + Lower Shabelle + Middle Shabelle. A super Hawiye region.Xamar-shabelle province would be a potential cash cow and breadbasket for the entire country
I think ur envisioning centralism with only weatern systems of governance...if we abolish states and have Provinces with a governor each then their is a possible solution. With strong anti corruption and justice system in place im 100% sure we can develop a strong central authorityI'm making peace with reality. And post civil war has made things worse as we all seem segregated from one another as we moved back to our homelands, and have had no reconciliation with eachother on a clan level and still continue having conflicts.
The thing is modern central state is not meant for somalis; thats the harsh reality. You have to build a state around the people, not the other way around. If you have a timid pop with friendly neighbours it may be possible, but somalis are too violent and hardheaded.
And even if we had a powerful central state run by hawiye it would just be ethiopia 2.0 with never ending tribal uprising that has a weak base (hawiye). And if a non hawiye president decides to antagonise the locals it all goes to shit again.
Provinces with a governor is basically a central system that tries to ignore qabiil in a society or drag unconsenting qabiils into a maamul. 8, 5 or 3 provinces makes no difference. Also it doesnt address the overarching issue which is how do we address the fact that most somalis prefer to share a state with their clan?I think ur envisioning centralism with only weatern systems of governance...if we abolish states and have Provinces with a governor each then their is a possible solution.
