Honestly I fear this curse, when I look at Congo the richest country in Africa full of all these resources and their people are dirt poor. How can small country like Rwanda play them like that!! I fear that Somalia faces the same fate. Beware Somalis.

Our sick neighbors (Kenya aidipia ) are eating the little we have now, imagine when we start digging our oil.

Those hyenas won't be stealing from us anymore, and there's no way they can even attempt to steal the oil, it's deep in our soil, The oil blocks we're in court with Kenya is gonna be handed back to us and kenya won't be able to hire anyone to retrieve it, the companies and investors already backed away from their deals. Aidsthiopia have way bigger problems now than to even attempt anything, Kenya on the other hand can be dealt with diplomatically. We're just gonna have to wait and see

Under Farmaajo, the resource curse is not going to happen to Somalia. Resource curse happens because the government (DRCongo) allows people to steal from them. When you have an anti-corruption politician, it is unlikely that he will allow foreigners have their way with Somalia.

Canada has the largest and most variety of reserves in the world. How come it's not cursed?

Somalia doesn't have a curse of resources it has cursed people in power.

You're comparing a first world nation with comparative neighbors with a country regaining its footing in hostile terrority :farole:

That's a new level of stupid :dabcasar:

I think whats most telling that we will suffer same fate is because we have a pm that worked for somoil. Its hopeless at the moment.

If they really start digging and selling our resources there should be a coup and everything nationalised.

Somalia is one of the most resource poor countries in the world. This fantasy of Somalia being resource rich and having great natural wealth must come to an end.

Somalia failed as a state because of the lack of resources needed to maintain a modern state. The only resource of substantial value that can be had in Somalia is control of the state. This is why we were all fighting over Hashii Maandeeq (the bountiful she-camel) i.e the state, and who was next in line to milk her. Somalia has very few resources that other African don't have in much greater abundance. We have two rivers and the ocean, that is all. Nothing else within Somalia is worth much at all. Our country is incredibly resource poor compared to other African states. This is the truth.

This paper by Menkhaus is a great read on how competition over the most valuable resource, the state, has lead to decades of chaos.
