The fast development of Ethiopia

Propaganda.

The vast majority are extremely poor and constantly fleeing, they live in slum like conditions.

The government there just focuses on aesthetics and vanity projects to project an image of growth but most people are aware of how dire the situation is there for the people.

Yeah, it's funny you mention this because I noticed how similar a lot of these nice pictures of addis abba were. Apparently a lot of them are just diffrent angles of a single road. Called bole

The Real Patriotic Ethiopians that live there know and see things for what they actually are
Despite the country’s economic struggles and the dire humanitarian situation, the government’s actions are out of sync with the reality in the country, with public spending going to vanity projects even as living conditions worsen for millions of Ethiopians.

It really is just Ogaden that is experiencing much of the meaningful development, shown in this thread.

Look at this, peddling propaganda before being shut down with a reality check

A single road now imagine how big Addis is as a city and you'll realize that 80% has zero roads or public infrastructure.

There's a lot I don't like about cagjar. But he's making the smart choice by compelely disassociating himself from somali and playing it safe while quietly growing the region. They've made massive progress. I wouldn't bee surprised if they've contributed massively to Ethiopias economic growth over the last 5 years.

Its fake GDP stats from the government and they often hide development under failed vanity projects that sent it deeper into debt.

Post 2018 it's been practically downhill since the Tigray war

Hmm that's interesting information there it seems they are still living in their old agrarian ways peasants farming in the mountains but like you said if that's the case then why are they starving.

I am not sure if he is playing it clever or if he is a traitor like most Somali regional leaders.

If he is doing this by playing it clever, May allah reward him because it has allowed Ogaden to make a lot of progress and be peaceful at the same time for the last 7 years. It shows they capitalized on what ONLF fought for. Unlike Abyi he has focused on expanding education, building universities, vocational schools, boarding schools, primary schools, hospitals.

He has launched and completed major road projects across different urban centers,
expanded region wide 24 hour electricity , built industries and affordable housing initiatives.

He is focusing on stuff that matters and not useless mega projects and stupid satellite city or whatever. Or image building, re-imagining the place as some super power utopia.

The fruit of this will show itself big time down the line, in terms of economic growth and productive gains. So we will see it the most visibly in the next few years.

When reer Ogaden begins to export gas next year especially.

I don't know if he's doing for a good reason. But I suspect a large part of it is the somali region elites have seen tangible growth and are now focused on just growing. The fruits of this are going to be enormous over the next decade. There are only 35 thousand schools in ethiopia. He opened 570 in 5 years . Just to put that into perspective, ethiopia had 30 thousand schools in 2013. For some reason they stopped building schools quickly because between 2008/2009 to 20012/2013. They went from 25 thousand schools to 30 thousand schools.

Hmm that's interesting information there it seems they are still living in their old agrarian ways peasants farming in the mountains but like you said if that's the case then why are they starving.

Famers are either displaced, or have unproductive yields from their harvest. Or much of food stock is looted by roaming militia's and monopolized by a few.

But they would have you still believe that Ethiopia is exporting enough agricutlural products to boost economic growth, it doesn't add up with reality.

But yeah they essentially live like feudal peasants and lords. There is study i always link

There is another study as well
Probing the available primary and secondary sources, the study argues that factors intrinsic to the agricultural sector and the land tenure system, the level of agricultural technology, and the attitude of the society toward economic prosperity seem to have greatly affected the economic productivity of the period. The supplementary sectors – trade and handicraft – had also limited development. This stagnant economy of the period was further affected by natural and environmental calamities such as drought, famine, and locust invasions. This static nature of the Ethiopian economy and the factors hampering it has more or less continued to this day.

Really enjoyed that read makes sense is it currently the same with how abiy summons thousands of soldiers to go as cannon fodder into the mountains that same old system can be seen today.

It looks like all our speculation on the state solwly collapsing are accurate at least to a certain extent. Right at the beginning of the video she mentions how tbe state is obsessed with consolidating power at the center and ignoring the periphery which she says begins 30 km outside addis abba. Very intresting detail he makes funny of the leaders of the amahea and ormo region and called them co-mayors of addis. Since they both live there .

And were still dealing with garxiis and civil war and people here believe the ethiopian state will collapse mass delusion when our enemies are getting stronger
I've been trying to ring the alarm bells to these people for years but they'd rather obfuscate the reality of the situation for their own self comfort.

They said it's only a matter of time until Ethiopia has is own 1991 style collapse and we'll finally be able to get Somali Galbeed back
1735827431757.png
, yet it didn't happen in 2018 when Oromos protested and brought Abiy into power, nor did it happen during the Tigray war, and It is unlikely to happen anytime soon, if ever.

The fact is, Ethiopia is growing at an unprecedented rate. They have double our GDP per capita despite being landlocked with 100 million more people. They have 10 years on our life expectancy and they've sustained nearly 10% GDP growth year-on-year for most of this century. They've already overtaken Kenya as East Africa's largest economy and have only pulled further ahead since. The data doesn't lie, no matter how much some wish it did.

If we don't get our affairs in order immediately, Wallahi I don't think there will be a country on the map called Somalia by mid-century as we know it today. We have no national power grid, no large energy plants, no industry, no monetary policy, and no rail infrastructure. Yet some here think we're on the same level as Ethiopia that completed the GERD dam, that has a national power grid, rail infrastructure, multilane highways, waste to energy plants, and Air force with *fighter Jets*, the same country who damed up our rivers and controls our water flow, that has thousands of troops in our country dictating local politics. Wake up to reality, either we have a revolution that completely does away with the foreign imposed 4.5 FGS/Member state framework and bring in a government fit for the 21st century or we perish.

Those GDP growth states are largely understood to be fake and inflated. It fairly easy to pick it apart because their economy is just agriculturally based

Yeah it's fake numbers , back in 2015 they measured their real GDP is somewhere close to or less than 15 Billion and it was frequently accused for falsifying development stats to portray fake growth
It's like @hayran said , they do it to attract foreign direct investments and to create positive image of the country via western lobbying.
2eE6JH4.png

See this blog they republished articles from London School of Economics, The Economist and The New York Review of Books, all pointing that the Ethiopian regime is fabricating statistics

Ethiopia’s economic growth borrows from ENRON’s accounting

pBNarpP.png
It all collapses when you deep how many people are dying from famine and they are suffering food shortage, yet their economy is largely just agricultural based.
amJGHsg.png
How are they at the same time producing soo much greater crop yield to export in large sums to attract hard currency? and boost economic and gdp growth. It makes literally no sense at all.
XJGjz37.png
Infact the reality is that they only produce bare minimum subsistence and have to rely on emergency food aid in greater parts
nHkr127.png

The GERD dam practically failed and they lost a ton of money, they didn't get back from that investment. Same with the other mega projects.

It's not surprise why these Mega projects often fail, because the government do not invest in improving the skills, wealth and educational outcomes and needs of their citizens. They just waste money or go into debt.

Worse of all, most megaprojects in Africa do not reflect the primary needs and expectations of citizens. It is often imposed on them while they bear the tax liabilities, health and social implications for the long-term.
Although industry experts have proposed that a collective responsibility and shared risk allocation model will ensure sustainable outcomes, we must remember that megaprojects in Africa are unique. Many of them fail the value-for-money assessment, are known for cost overruns and often generate lower revenues than promised. For several megaprojects, the authorities don’t regard the environmental impact assessments at the development phase. Their decisions are largely driven by political bias rather than objective studies.

You seriously can't believe they actually sustained 10% growth for most of this century. Even the ethiopians don't belive that. That wss the kind of growth rate that china had. Look how much china transformed between 1980 and 2000. That was 20 years of near 10% growth. If the economy was actually booming that much why did they have those protests in 2011? why would they not be able to pay back a 30 million dollar debt payment in 2024 and instead they were forced to have the imf bail them out? Just go look at the ethiopian subreddit and see how the locals talk about how diffcult life in addis has become.

The only real thing Ethiopia has over Somalia is its military. Otherwise the country is a complete dump outside of Addis Ababa. I'm not sure why you think a country with rampant poverty, low literacy, undeveloped infastructure, low GDP per capita, and high debt is far ahead of Somalia. The fact is, they keep shooting themselves in the foot with the civil wars they have every decade.

You also ignore the improvements Somalia has been making as well not to mention it will likely soon start exporting oil in the next decade which will massively boost its GDP like you saw with Guyana. If Somalia stays within its upward trend, it has a brighter future than Ethiopia which has been stuck in on and off warfare since the 60s.

Their military has barely any control outside of Addis, and it depended in parts on the revenue made in the peacekeeping mission in Somalia, now that they been removed it's going to hurt their military even more.

Plus much of that growth rate in China happened when it transition from an agrarian economy to an industrial manufacturing based economy.

It's not just china but of the 16 countries with a 100 million + people. Everyone who has at least a 3k gdp per capita got there through manufacturing to some extent.
