The Habesha always ate raw meat "13th century"

This same source says the people of Zeila speak the Habesha language lol I would take everything in it with a grain of salt, Is this even a first hand account? It never says he went to Ethiopia or Somalia just that he heard reports from others. If the Somali in Zeila was strongly influenced by Arabic I could see it sounding superficially Ethio Semitic to an outsider

This is from Al Maqrizi not Al Umari. Two different people plus Al Umari never mentioned anything about no Ethio Semitic he just said a Habeshi language. Al Umari considered the entirety of the to be Bilād Al Hubsh. Al Umari even calls Mogadishu a Xabeshi city.

From the words Al Umari mentioned we already know he was talking about Somali being spoken in Zeila. By the way Al Umari said the people of Xabasha have over 100 languages but the reason he group them together was because he thought they were the same race.

He specifically calls the language spoke in Zayla the Zayla’i language(لغة الزيالعة)
