We now know, what breaked Somalia into pieces was the dictators bad and ill advised decision to invade Ethiopia, this against his bigeste allies advice the Soviet union, then when the Somali army was dismantled, he then turned against his own generals and army leaders imprisonening them and assassinating them, why most rebels leaders from Abdullahi Yusuf, Eydiid to Muse bixi are former members of the Somali army, many of them even veterans. Why I would argue we can thank the kacaan for the current condition we are in.. Siyaad Barre did an irreversible damage to the Somali nation, all because he couldn't get himself to pass on the presidential title to someone else who's worthy.

No one could’ve predicted the massive soviet airlift to Ethiopia. Not only that the US hung us out to dry we invaded at the worst possible time. We could’ve even invaded during the Nixon era a couple years earlier and got support or during the Reagan administration right after. Jimmy carter was a fucking retard and didn’t play Cold War politics and now a days he’s remembered as one of the worst US presidents. SMH it just wasn’t meant to be, when I look at all the shi that went down its defo divine intervention cuz all the puzzles fell perfectly for Ethiopia and horribly for us.

That wasn't working. The invasion was done since WSLF wasn't making much progress. It was also the perfect time since Ethiopia was in the middle of a civil war.

People don’t understand the geopolitical climate at the time. It was a now or never sort of thing, plus he was probably facing insane pressure to invade from his generals if he didn’t I wouldn’t be surprised if there were plans to pack him, tbh the war did cripple Somalia but it was done in good faith and it just wasn’t meant to be, we really did try no one would’ve predicted who went down the way it did. It’s just a tragedy but it’s Allahs decree. We tied our camel, things didn’t work out Allah knows best maybe we were saved from a worse fate. Maybe if we conquered the region the soviets would’ve invaded us instead of Afghanistan. Who knows

It's okay to lose a war against a bigger power but the worst thing is what the dictator Siad Barre did afterwards, he turned on his own army leaders, some were killed and some were imprisoned and slowly by slowly he started to dismantle the army, so in a way the Somali army was destroyed both externally and internally. Why we were left with an extremely weak army who was then few years down the road got destroyed by rebels as the final nail on the coffin.
