I won't go into detail, long story short, it went downhill from the moment Siad barre seized power. Yes in the early days he may have invested in public infrastructure & in some factories, but he took out so many loans from ajnabis to fund these projects that he was never going to pay back. Therefore, over time our inability to pay back loans was a direct result of the inefficiency of the commie system because it wasn't creating wealth for the nation & productivity was low & lack of foreign currency coming in because we didn't export anything of real value.
