People often view Turkey as a second-tier power, but it is firmly within the United States' sphere of influence. From military training and hardware to the smallest details, everything is bought by and approved from the U.S., especially with Turkey being a member of NATO. This reliance makes Turkey vulnerable to Washington. The United States has effectively disengaged from the Middle East, with its withdrawal from Afghanistan marking its last major action in the region. As a result, Gulf countries, Turkey, and Israel have become proactive in shaping the Middle East according to their own visions, as the U.S. has essentially allowed its partners to take charge of the region. You can bet everything Turkey does has the approval of the U.S.

What I’m trying to say is that the last thing the U.S. would want is for Turkey or Saudi Arabia to acquire nuclear weapons. This would undermine the U.S.'s role as the primary security guarantor and trigger a massive arms race among unstable countries. It would only be a matter of time before these weapons are either used or fall into the hands of groups like Al-Qaeda. We know that in the Gulf, Khawārij factions are deeply embedded within the governments of those nations.

Moreover, there is no clear evidence that these countries are genuinely pursuing nuclear weapons. This isn't the 1950s anymore, the technology for a basic nuclear bomb is within reach for many mid-tier nations. The real deterrent is external pressure. As seen with Iran, the sanctions, embargoes, and blockades imposed on countries pursuing nuclear weapons often deter others from following the same path.

The idea that Turkey is pursuing nuclear weapons is just the fantasy of a Turkish nationalist, and a single tweet shouldn’t be taken seriously. Yet we’re seeing people jumping from one Turk’s tweet to the assumption that Turkey is about to start testing nukes in Mudug.

This shows how quickly Somalis can fall for sensational stories without verification or fact-checking. There are people in the U.S. government who have spoken about invading Mexico, but no one takes it seriously until it is confirmed by the president or becomes a position supported by both major political parties, rather than the rantings of one fringe representative. In this case a journalist.

People want to believe a certain narrative and will bend any snippet of media to confirm that bias.
