Hold on chaps, what exactly do we know about this group? They don't look like the typical proxy fodder - they're well groomed and most if not all are well educated.
Usually the Empire recruits the peasants/youth in the open (rural areas), and recruit the educators/politicians behind closed doors. This declaration, if truly insidious in nature, seems like a waste of resources especially when taking their backgrounds into account - Somalis love educated people.
Each one of those men is more useful infiltrating the Somali establishment and influencing from within. All they've done is reveal themselves, and as per reaction, the Somali response to it is predictively hostile.
What if they're legit?

I've noticed everytime there's a stupid new religious phenomenon, Somalis have to join in. Do we not have anyone with any ability to think critically and not be a sheep in that hellhole anymore?

I will not entirely dismiss your theory but what lead me to this conclusion is the timing of this, we have a new government with optimism levels the highest I have known, this is a direct challenge to them before they had any chance to prove themselves, any such premature opposition will classify you as a kharijiite due to coming against the chosen government.
This group has no track record that is known to anyone, there is no charity organisation, no famine relief, no buildings of institutions, no orphanages absolutely nothing I can point to and say, hey they done this let's get behind them.
The other interesting thing is the current beef between this government and the useless corrupt so called shameless Islamist groups many of which Farmaajo has kept out and even double crossed, they are raging with anger and this looks like on of their tricks.
If this group actually did work on the ground for the people and then only make this announcement much like ICU did when it became evidently clear to all sane people that the government is beyond useless, most of the people would have accepted them just like they accepted ICU.
I do not care one bit about their quackademic credentials or qualifications even worse what they wear, I want to see what they have accomplished or done for the people, we have a lot of fantastic orators, but very little people that actually get their hands dirty and do things on the ground.
