The Only Way to Achieve Peace in Somalia

The only way to achieve permanent peace and security is to deweoponize every civilian; only soldiers employed by the government should be permitted to carry weapons. If that happens, law and order will quickly return. Just take a look at our neighbouring countries, like Kenya, which have adopted the British policy of prohibiting civilians from possessing weapons; the only reason for this peaceful nation is that civilians are not allowed to obtain weapons. The government needs to pay attention to this issue and the parliament needs to approve a bill prohibiting the sale of firearms to civilians and punishing those who do so. Somalia was just like that from 1960 until 1991. However, things changed when the guns ended up in the hands of rebels and civilians.

Ideally yes but the only reason why civilians are armed is because Somali governments and leaders are notorious for preferrential treatment between clans. If you can have a government that can be fair, then civilian disaramament is going to work. I'd wager we first need to ban clan itself so we can make sure we don't get leadership who'll use the government to enrich his clan while cracking down other clans.

true. You give a somali citizen a gun either they chimp out and start killing people or they join al shabab.

First we need to starve them of ammo and then take the guns bc low iqers wont take this ban sitting down

Maybe in a few decades after peace has settled down and somalis have be recivilised maybe talks about ownership of light fire arms can return.

However right now guns need to be off the streets.

Nope it was illegal for ordinary citizens only Military and Police were allowed even the rebels couldn't get it thats why they were armed by Ethiopia.

i would go the opposite, everyone gets guns (maybe develop a weapons industry) , learns how to use it. and can defend themselves from gangs, terrorists, and crazy highway robbers. taking guns away like taking the teeth or claws from a cat.

"an armed society, is a just society" - some guy in Texas

the thing is, if no one had guns it wouldn't be an issue, but their are so many guns available to Somalis already, taking it away will cause a power imbalance and destabilize certain areas. As crazy as it sounds, everyone should have the ability to defend themselves. but everyone should also know the gravity of their actions.

Give weapons to 68 iq people you get Aano qabiil, mooryaans,Thieves, Road Extortion, Terrorism all of them killing people it's not a good choice to weoponize our people we've seen it for the past 30 years.

Keeping guns in the hands of the citizens would actually require a trustworthy, proffessional, un-corrupt civil service/burecracy/state that prioritises the state over clan and making a quick buck.
Unfortunately you dont and wont in the foreseeable future have that in somalia.
