I dont think Somalia can make laws like this because our constitution is based on shariah. But you should educate yourself and family and make good decisions. If you are seeing things like mental illness, autism, etc in family gene pool your not doing your future kids any favors marrying somone within clan or you related to.

Modern science also has gene testing you can do that shows disorders you and partner carry. Its not for certain but will show risks you carry and likelihoods of showing up. If i get lucky i end up with baddie barawi chick with somali, persian, bantu, arab admixture lol. I am product of same clan marriage i need to dilute the gene pool. I am very sensitive to alot of foods almost whole family is our digestive system cooked

our govt to weak to ever enforce something like that. and them proposing something like that would destroy their little support. solving clan beefs and building modern cities would help. Build high rated national university system people intermingle and problem would be solved hopefully without laws

We don’t have high rates of cousin marriages, before the civil war it was common to marry from neighboring clans

Civil war long time ago that’s almost 40 years. Maybe cousins marriages not coming but happens and many folks marry within clan back home as we all separated by clan

The civil war has destroyed every facet of our society.

Also the Internet used to be so much more accessible, so many old bookmarked pages that are now behind a paywall or simply gone forever

I’ve heard of 0 cases of Gen Z and Millenials marrying their cousins. When it comes to Gen X or Boomer I’ve only known 1 case. Beyond that I don’t think cousin marriage is big within us or maybe it’s region dependent. From my parents to my great grandparents in terms of distance and qabil they are so far from eachother. Sometimes I wonder how my grandparents and ancestors even met? Word of mouth and long treks.

i knew a healthy Guy.he was a hard worker but suddenly he couldnt use this legs and hands eye bulging weirdly .constant swelling.went to different doctors and was told no cure.it is genetic thing.

The whole distant family is close knit and they intermarry .the brothers will marry off the daughters to their counins and the second or third generation will continue the practice.
you can find weird kids in the family who cant walk and are bed ridden for life.

Well, my mom told me that Boomers and Gen X ppl didn't rlly find qabiil important in Xamar. During Siad Barres reign, the majority there were very secular. So you see alot of school sweethearts from that time, or childhood friends that confessed to each other in my family that are boomers or Gen X. Tho cousin marriages were still present, esp. before his dictatorship due to the agrarian culture we had and ig when the dude was a bum. After that generation tho my parents came to the west so they don't know the status quo. I came to know that now due to qabyaalid, parents are more inclined for their kid to marry someone from the same clan in Somalia. It's still a backwards society, like why are Madhiban ppl that are the same as any person not able to marry from any clan?

Though one thing I would like to chime in is that you can marry someone within your clan and have no relation to them. Even in the sub sub sub sub sub clan level you probs won’t have any relation to them either (or maybe just me). I mean people were very religious in my area and still marrying people who were from different qabils. It’s to strengthen ties. People are still marrying people from different tribes even now. Somali parents are just happy if you bring a Somali home. That’s what I heard the Adeeros saying once.
